Using Storybooks to Enhance Pupils’ Learning in English Language Classrooms

Family diversity will influence students’ motivation, attitude and performance of learning. In order to make our teaching appropriately and effectively, we should pay more attention to it. Nowadays, the composition of family changes a lot and rapidly, students come from diverse families. Teachers face various learning styles and demands as well as encounter more challenges than before. Being a teacher, we should be aware of this phenomenon and get fully prepared for our own teaching in class; otherwise, we should offer suitable instruction to help learners.
In my opinion, the storybook is a good media we can make use of to teach EFL learners culture and language. Using storybooks to teach pupils language can enhance their linguistic competence. In addition, many different customs and conventions are introduced and presented in storybooks; teachers can employ these resources to help students acquaint with the foreign culture, acquire more knowledge about their own and other culture, develop their cultural awareness and promote their multicultural sensitivity.
