Languages are the tool for
communication. As long as we can
communicate with each other, pronunciation is not that important. However, pronunciation matters if we want to
speak beautifully. Mr. Jung (任老師)
is really good at teaching and coaching us to speak “perfect” English. We learn how to speak as Americans do. It’s really a good workshop. I enjoyed it, but still there are a variety
of American accents
around the US.
Besides, in Singapore, they speak Singlish, while many Chinese speak
Chinglish. What matters is that we
understand what the native speakers of English want to express at their normal
speaking speed, and they understand what we want to tell them. Sometimes, it is a matter of
environment. For example, if we spend
time listening to Australian English, we will get used to it sooner or
later. There’s not short cut in learning
a language. Listen to it every day, and
try to practice speaking it. Then
eventually we will learn it. Mr. Jung gave us the lecture by telling us the
tips. If we can make good use of the
tips, and try our best to practice, I am sure we will be able to speak English
beautifully.
In the afternoon, Mr. Yang provided us a lot of materials about Reader’s
Theater. He is really productive. What he works on helps the teachers and
students a lot. Reader’s Theater is a
good activity for all the students to participate and feel that they are one of
the group. I appreciate what Mr. Yang
has done for English teaching. He
provides an alternative way of English learning for the students, even for the
slow learners. Students learn how to
read and speak in Reader’s Theater. In
addition, learning English by singing is a great idea. Most students learn English easily by
singing. The songs Mr. Yang introduced
to us are great.
I
enjoyed the workshop. Deep appreciation
also goes to Daniel for arranging such a wonderful workshop for the English
teachers in Taichung City.
Great saying.
